Achievement Test Reminders!

Parents, as you are well aware, achievement tests are this week at PDS. Here some helpful suggestions to help your child do their best on testing this week.

• Please make sure your child eats a healthy dinner the night before testing, and gets to bed at a decent hour at bedtime.
• Studies have shown that a breakfast enriched with protein will help your child retrieve information faster. So, in short, please make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast.
• Please send a nutritious snack with your child to school. We will have a break in between testing, and a snack with help recharge them with energy!

Thank you so much for all your support! The last day of testing will be, Thursday, March 29th. Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time by 8:00. Testing will begin shortly after.



Testing aside- we would like to congratulate our Science Fair and Book Fair winners. Mrs. Shy's class won 1st place in the Coins For Books Challenge. Thank you so much to those of you that brought in your coins and dollars to help support our library! Mrs. Norman's class came in 2nd place. Way to go 3rd grade!! We also want to congratulate our Science Fair winners that went to Oxford. A job well done goes to everyone that participated!

Next week, is Holy Week. We will have chapel everyday next week. Please join us in fellowship as we remember and celebrate the precious sacrifice that was made for us.
There will be no school Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9th. We hope you enjoy the long weekend with your families and friends!

Busy days in 3rd Grade!

We have been so busy in 3rd grade this month! It seems like January flew by and February is going by just as fast! We started off this month with the PDS Science Fair! Congratulations to our 3rd grade winners! They will go on to Oxford to compete in March! Thank you so  much to Mrs. Whalen, and for everyone that helped made our Science Fair such a great event!

This month we also had the MAIS District Art at PDS this year. Different schools through out the region participated in this event. Several PDS students had art selected to participate in the event, and PDS also had several art winners! Congratulations to Ben Caleb for a being a 3rd grade winner! We are so proud of you!

February also started our new book for reading, Charlotte's Web! We have really enjoyed the book so far! As most of you know, the kids have a Charlotte's Web binder in which they are keeping all information about the book that we are studying. We have a test each Friday covering 3 chapters, with vocabulary and comprehension questions. It is so wonderful to see the students excited about reading!

Last night, we had a very special event, Taste of PDS! We sang songs, ate yummy food, and enjoyed great fellowship! Thank you so much to PTF, parents and staff for all your hard work for making this a special tradition at PDS!

Next Tuesday, is February 14th which means one thing-- Valentine's Day Party! There is already a great deal of buzz going around the rooms as to what we will be doing for our party! The parties will start at 2:00.

Lastly, we will soon start working on our 3rd grade play which will be on March 23rd. Play parts and solos will be assigned soon! We will be practicing alot at school, but it would be so helpful if you would please help your child learn his or her part! With your help, I know the 3rd grade will be one to remember! Thank you so much in advance for your help with this!

Whew! What a month! We will be looking forward with joyful hearts as to what the rest of the year may bring! Here are some pictures from this month. Enjoy!

Make sure your child is dressed in nice jeans, a red turtleneck shirt (long-sleeved) , and belt.


December 16th: Christmas Chapel 8:30
 Christmas parties will be following chapel, and will be dismissed at 10:30

November highlights!

It is so hard to believe that the month of November is coming to an end! It has gone by so fast! Please be sure to check your child's folder today, because there is alot of information and events going on next month!

To conclude our study of energy, the students made posters showing ways to save energy at home and on the go.

COMMUNITY HELPERS

In Social Studies, Ms. Roberts has been teaching the students about community helpers.  To learn more about these helpers, they did research and then they interviewed each other.  They did a great job!

Ally Powell wrote and illustrated a story, and we enjoyed hearing it!  Great job, AP!

BIOGRAPHY DAY!

We are SO proud of the work that the students did on their biography book reports!  They looked great in their costumes, and they did a fantastic job on their presentations!  Thank you parents, grandparents, friends, and Mrs. Burd for coming to watch them share what they learned.

Project Assignment from Ms. Roberts

The third graders will do their first project for social studies on community workers.  The project will be due on October 19 and 20.  Some students will present on each of those days  Please check your child's planner next week for his/her presentation day.

WORKING IN MY COMMUNITY

1. Students will choose a partner by drawing names out of a hat.  (Because there are 11 in each class, there will be one group of three.)

2. Students will choose a community worker.

3. Students are to research and find out what that worker does, what training is required for that job, and any other information about their community worker.

4. Each student writes four questions and answers about his/her community worker.

5. On presentation day, one person will be the community worker, and the other will be the interviewer.

6. Students may dress up for their parts.  One will dress as the news reporter, and the other will dress as the community worker.

7. Partners should practice their parts BEFORE presentation day.

Students will use computer lab time this week to research their community helper.

National Walk To School Day

To celebrate National Walk to School Day, the whole school walked to the DSU football field and released green and gold balloons.  It was a beautiful day and a great way to get some exercise together.
